  • Ukraine and Finland agree to develop and expand cooperation in environmental protection

    Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine Svitlana Grynchuk met with the Finnish delegation that visited Ukraine.

    "This is the third meeting with Finnish partners within a month to work on topical environmental issues. After a working visit of the Ukrainian government delegation to Helsinki in October this year, we prolonged our partnership by launching a joint project of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources and the Finnish Meteorological Institute with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland. And as we agreed with my counterpart Kai Mukkänen, we are starting close cooperation with Finnish business representatives who can help develop environmental areas," said Svitlana Grynchuk.

    The parties discussed the prospects of cooperation, which may resonate with Point 8 of Volodymyr Zelenskyy's Peace Formula and the current Memorandum between our countries. "In addition to Finland's co-chairmanship, in work at Point 8 of the Peace Formula, we also have many environmental areas of cooperation between our experts. That is why business expertise is extremely important for us," said Svitlana Grynchuk.

    Among the guests of the Ministry were also representatives of the Finnish public-private sector, including the leadership of the Finnish National Emergency Supply Agency, as well as the heads of Destia, Nocca, Söderberg & Partners, with the organisational support of the Miltton Group. This is a strong argument for Ukraine as a strong player in the global market. This is a strong argument for Ukraine as a strong player in the international arena.

    Svitlana Grynchuk also spoke about the challenges of the energy system related to russian attacks on infrastructure, as well as the difficulties of recording damage caused by the hostilities.

    Topical issues of cooperation between Ukraine and Finland, which we are developing despite the hostilities:

    - improving the quality of water resources and access to water, in particular for the frontline regions;

    - reforming environmental monitoring;

    - managing forest resources in wartime, when forests are being destroyed by fighting and fires;

    - reforming climate policy;

    - waste management and implementation of our reform;

    - investment in the development of critical materials in Ukraine (we already have improved legislation for this).

    "I thank the Finnish delegation for your efforts and ideas for development. It is extremely important to have allies who engage in dialogue with us not only abroad but also in Kyiv, despite the danger," said Svitlana Grynchuk.
