Ministry of Health of Ukraine, posted 05 September 2024 18:27

Minister of Health Viktor Liashko met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan Seymur Mardaliyev. The meeting focused on deepening cooperation in the healthcare sector between Azerbaijan and Ukraine, as well as discussing opportunities for cooperation with the Okhmatdyt National Specialised Children’s Hospital.

“The Ukrainian healthcare system is going through unprecedented challenges due to the war, however, it continues to develop. Today, new programmes, methods and technologies are being actively implemented, such as, for example, expanded neonatal screening, a modern corneal transplantation procedure, innovations in cardiac surgery and neurosurgery. Also, the process of equipping hospitals with the most modern critical equipment, for which specialists are trained, is underway, and a network of university hospitals is being created so that students can gain the best practical experience during their studies. Today, we are discussing the strengthening of cooperation and priority areas of cooperation in the medical sector with our colleagues and partners from Azerbaijan. We are ready to share our experience with our partners,” said Viktor Liashko.

During the meeting, the parties also agreed to further establish an exchange of experience between medical professionals and strengthen horizontal cooperation between medical institutions and medical universities. In addition, the participants discussed the prospects for joint infrastructure projects using the public-private partnership mechanism and initiatives in the medical education sector.

Another important item on the agenda was the pharmaceutical industry. It is about exchanging experience and information on quality control of medicines and medical devices, developing opportunities to supply products to mutual markets, as Ukrainian medicines have long been successfully exported to Azerbaijan.

The Minister thanked Azerbaijan for its support, including projects to rehabilitate children affected by the horrors of war, and for humanitarian aid provided to Ukraine.
