Ukraine receives 13 generators from Japanese agency JICA to support critical infrastructure
As part of the Emergency Recovery Programme funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Ukraine has received 13 generators for the needs of the Kyiv municipal enterprise Kyivteploenergo. In total, 137 generators have been procured under this stage of the programme. The transfer of equipment to other regions of Ukraine is currently under way.
As noted by First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal, JICA and the Government of Japan consistently support Ukraine’s energy sector by steadily providing critically important equipment to strengthen the country’s energy resilience.
“The assistance from the Government of Japan is not merely a symbol of solidarity; it is real, tangible support that directly helps our cities, communities and people withstand the extreme difficulties caused by russian attacks. We thank JICA for the new batch of generators, which will help the capital’s utility services provide heating to Kyiv residents’ homes and social infrastructure facilities,” Denys Shmyhal emphasised.
The 13 generators provided by the partners will help ensure heating for approximately 300 residential buildings in Kyiv, as well as key social infrastructure sites, including hospitals, schools and kindergartens. They will be installed directly at heat-supply facilities – in boiler houses across various districts of the capital.
The equipment handover ceremony in the capital was attended by Deputy Minister of Energy for European Integration Anatolii Kutsevol, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Japan to Ukraine Masashi Nakagome, and the Chief Representative of the JICA Ukraine Office Osamu Hattori.
