Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to Ukraine Natalka Cmoc. The parties discussed deepening cooperation in the energy sector, particularly in the nuclear industry.

The Minister of Energy recalled that Ukraine had successful experience of cooperation with Canadian companies, including CAMECO, one of the world’s largest producers of natural uranium and a provider of uranium conversion services.

German Galushchenko stressed that strengthening cooperation with international partners in uranium mining and enrichment would help to increase the relevant capacities and push russia out of the global markets.

“We are also interested in deepening cooperation with Canada in the development and implementation of small modular reactor technologies. Ukraine has significant potential in this area and is ready to share experience, jointly develop and localise relevant production facilities on its territory,” the Minister said.

The parties also discussed the issue of attracting investment to the Ukrainian energy sector. The Ambassador stressed the readiness of Canadian companies to participate in the process of restoration and development of the Ukrainian energy sector. Natalka Cmoc referred to the international conference “Energy for the Recovery of Ukraine” held in Warsaw on the initiative of the Ministry of Energy, in which 15 Canadian companies participated.

German Galushchenko thanked Canada for its support to the Ukrainian energy sector, including financial assistance and humanitarian cargoes of energy equipment. The Minister of Energy briefed the Ambassador on the current needs of the energy sector and outlined plans to increase the capacity of distributed generation and renewable energy sources, which would strengthen the resilience of the energy system.
