The Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine and the World Economic Forum have agreed to partner in the development of digitalisation and signed a letter of intent in Davos. The document was signed by Deputy Prime Minister for Innovation, Education, Science and Technology Development and Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov, President of the World Economic Forum Børge Brende and Managing Director of the Forum Jeremy Jurgens.

“In 2019, Ukraine rethought the concept of a digital state: we chose the mobile-first approach and launched the state superapp Diia. This has shaped the culture of digital transformation in Ukraine, and is influencing the whole world. Governments in other countries are interested in our experience, and we are already collaborating and sharing the experience of launching a government application in Estonia. Opening a GovTech centre in Kyiv together with the World Economic Forum is a logical next step and our team is very excited about this partnership,” said Mykhailo Fedorov.

One of the main results of the cooperation will be the opening of the GovTech centre in Kyiv. This is a platform that will focus on the development of government technologies, bringing together academics, businesses, technology companies, the public sector, and the Forum’s global communities.

The focus will be on digital government transformation, e-governance development and digital skills. The centre will enable Ukrainian startups and innovators to share experiences with foreign partners and accelerate digital reforms in Ukraine.

According to Jeremy Jurgens, the inspiring work of the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, which is implementing digitalisation under the most difficult conditions, deserves the highest praise. This is a testament not only to the resilience of the Ukrainian government and citizens, but also to the country’s digital infrastructure. The establishment of the new centre in Ukraine will undoubtedly help Ukraine develop new partnerships and strengthen its GovTech expertise.

The first Global Government Technology Centre will soon open in the German capital Berlin (GGTC Berlin) and will focus on public sector innovation, digital transformation and the application of the latest technologies in government and public sector organisations. Ukraine will be the second country in the world to launch such a platform. This proves that international partners value the development of innovation and technology in Ukraine. Despite the full-scale war, Ukraine is developing and continues to set global trends.
