Situation in energy system on 28 February

Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, posted 28 February 2024 10:09

A surplus of electricity was recorded – restrictions on renewable energy sources were applied; 20 units of TPP generating equipment are in reserve

Power generation and consumption

Yesterday afternoon, a surplus of electricity was recorded in the Ukrainian power system. At the request of NPC Ukrenergo, the surplus was transferred to Poland. The total amount of electricity transferred was 1,661 MWh (from 11:00 to 16:00). The load of renewable energy facilities was also reduced by 253 MW.

Domestic generation is sufficient to cover the needs of consumers, and commercial imports and exports of electricity are also planned.

A TPP block was briefly out of service for emergency repairs, which was put back into operation after the issues were resolved. There are 18 power units and 2 thermal generation blocks in reserve, which will be used if necessary.

The situation is under control. The system is balanced. No outage schedules are applied.

Consequences of shelling

As a result of hostilities, a 110 kV overhead power line in Kharkiv region was disconnected, which resulted in a blackout at the 110 kV substation supplying household consumers.

The 330 kV line supplying ZNPP remains de-energised.

Network status

One of Ukrzaliznytsia’s substations in Kyiv was shut down due to a technological failure, but there were no disruptions to train traffic. At the same time, the substations supplying electricity to household consumers were cut off. As a result, about 16,000 customers in the capital were left without electricity, which was promptly restored.

A 110 kV overhead line was disconnected for technical reasons, which resulted in a power outage for more than 16,400 customers in Khmelnytskyi region. All customers have been reconnected.

Situation at ZNPP

The water level in the cooling pond has slightly decreased to 15.56 metres. This is sufficient to meet the plant’s needs.

Import/export

For the current day, electricity imports are forecasted at 1,667 MWh. Exports to Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Moldova and Hungary are also planned – up to 3,806 MWh.
