Situation in energy system on 17 July
The heat wave continues throughout Ukraine; hourly blackouts are in effect today; the emergency blackout schedules that were in effect yesterday in several regions have been cancelled; equipment at one of the power facilities was promptly repaired and put into operation
GENERATION, TRANSMISSION, CONSUMPTION
The situation in the energy sector remains difficult. There is a significant shortage of generating capacity in the system due to massive hostile attacks since spring this year, and shelling of substations and transmission lines continues. Ukraine is also experiencing an abnormal heat wave. All of this makes the situation even more difficult. Consumer restrictions are in place throughout the day.
Over the past 24 hours, Ukraine has additionally engaged emergency assistance from Poland to partially cover the deficit. In addition, emergency shutdown schedules were applied in several areas of the northern and central regions to prevent overloading of the power system.
No outages are foreseen for critical infrastructure companies and companies that import more than 80% of their electricity in accordance with a government decree.
The main reason for the electricity supply restrictions is enemy attacks on the energy infrastructure and the negative consequences of these attacks.
STATE OF THE GRID
In the eastern region, a high-voltage substation was shut down due to a technological failure, which cut off power to several substations, household consumers and gas production companies. All consumers have been supplied with power.
In the southern region, equipment at a high-voltage substation was disconnected, which led to a power outage at several substations, household consumers, local industry, and a renewable energy facility. All consumers were supplied with power.
In the central region, a high-voltage overhead line was disconnected, resulting in a power outage at several substations and household consumers. All consumers were supplied with power via the backup scheme.
POWER OUTAGES FOR CONSUMERS
Due to severe weather conditions, 166 settlements in Lviv and Zakarpattia regions are without power supply.
In total, 493 settlements remain without power due to hostilities and technical failures.
Power engineers have supplied power to 10,540 consumers who were cut off as a result of hostilities.
SITUATION AT ZNPP
The water level in the cooling pond is 14.93 metres. This is enough to meet the plant’s needs.
IMPORT/EXPORT
For the current day, imports from Poland, Slovakia, Romania and Hungary are forecasted in the total amount of 24,959 MWh and a maximum capacity of 1,271 MW. There are no exports and no plans for exports.
