  • Situation in energy system on 22 November
Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, posted 22 November 2023 12:34

Due to lower temperatures, electricity consumption is growing, but the situation in the power system is stable and under control

    Power generation and consumption

Due to a drop in temperature, an increase in electricity consumption is recorded. Yesterday, three TPP units went for short-term repairs.

However, the situation in the power system is stable and under control. Nine nuclear power units are in operation, generating more than 55% of electricity demand. The thermal generation units that are undergoing short-term repairs are also expected to come back online. To meet consumer demand, it is planned to increase electricity generation by hydroelectric power plants.

The maximum consumption was recorded at 16:50 yesterday.

    Consequences of shelling

In Donetsk region, 2 settlements (4,174 customers) were cut off from electricity supply due to hostilities.

In Dnipropetrovsk region, two gas inlet pipelines were damaged in one of the region’s districts as a result of hostilities. Private houses were cut off from gas supply.

    Situation in the regions

The enemy continues to terrorise the regions of Ukraine with shelling. As a result of technical disruptions and hostilities, 427 settlements remain without electricity.

In Zaporizhzhia region, 46 customers were disconnected from electricity supply due to hostilities over the last day. Another 41 customers were disconnected for technical reasons.

At the same time, power engineers continue to restore electricity supply to consumers.

Almost 300 consumers in Kherson have been reconnected. Following the flooding caused by Kakhovka HPP dam explosion, 746 consuymers remain disconnected, with more than 4,100 consuymers disconnected due to the hostilities.

In Kherson region, 12 settlements and more than 2,200 consumers that were disconnected due to adverse weather conditions have been reconnected. In total, 45 settlements and 26,400 consumers in the region are without power due to the hostilities.

In Donetsk region, power engineers have restored power to 9 settlements, including those that were cut off earlier, and supplied electricity to 5,584 customers.

In Kharkiv region, 362 consumers have been reconnected after the grid was restored. 17,200 customers remain without power. Restoration works are ongoing.

A 110 kV power line was disconnected at one of the substations due to damaged insulators. The line was repaired, but consumers did not lose power.

In Kirovohrad region, three 10 kV power lines were disconnected due to technological failures. As of the morning, all consumers have electricity supply.

In total, power engineers have restored power to almost 8,500 consumers over the past day.

    State of the grid

A 330 kV overhead line of NPC Ukrenergo in Dnipropetrovsk region was disconnected for technological reasons yesterday. The line was put out for emergency repair.

    Situation at the ZNPP

The occupiers put power unit No. 5 into cold shutdown.

A slight increase in the water level in the plant’s cooling pond was recorded – it is now at 15.67 metres. This is enough to meet the needs of the plant.

    Import/export

Over the past day, electricity exports to Slovakia and Romania totalled 900 MWh, while imports from Slovakia, Romania and Moldova amounted to 860 MWh.
