Situation in energy system on 20 June

Another thermal generation unit out of repair, grids in Kyiv and Mykolaiv regions damaged by night drone attacks.

GENERATION

Another thermal power generation unit has come out of scheduled repair as part of the biggest repair campaign of energy facilities since Ukraine’s independence. It will add 100 MW of additional capacity to the grid. The repair campaign at thermal, hydro and nuclear generation facilities is ongoing. This is important for high-quality preparation for the heating season.

Overall, the electricity generated by Ukrainian power plants is fully sufficient to meet the needs of consumers. There is no shortage.

CONSEQUENCES OF THE SHELLING

At night, the enemy struck again at the territory of Ukraine. The falling wreckage of a UAV damaged a power line in Kyiv region, leaving almost half a thousand customers without electricity. The night shelling also damaged power grids in Mykolaiv region. Two settlements are without power.

SITUATION IN THE REGIONS

In the morning of 20 June, 75,000 consumers in Kyiv lost power due to a technological malfunction at a thermal power plant. All of them are currently connected via a backup line. The cause of the accident is under investigation. The transmission system operator’s high-voltage network in Kyiv region was also disconnected.

A power line in Zakarpattia region was out of service due to bad weather (a thunderstorm).

SITUATION IN THE FRONTLINE REGIONS

Enemy terror continues in the frontline and border regions with russia. As a result of heavy shelling, some consumers in Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, Mykolaiv and Kherson regions lost power. Due to earlier shelling, some consumers in Chernihiv region are without power.

Power engineers are working where the security situation allows. In particular, in Kharkiv region, crews managed to supply power to more than 10,000 consumers yesterday.

In total, power companies have restored power to almost 26,000 customers in the frontline and border regions over the past day.

CONSEQUENCES OF THE KAKHOVKA HYDROELECTRIC POWER PLANT DAM BLOW-UP

Efforts are underway to record and eliminate the consequences of the flood caused by the dam blast. Power engineers are working to restore power supply.

In Kherson, more than 370 consumers have been supplied with power, while more than 14,000 customers in the city remain without electricity due to flooding. In the de-occupied part of Kherson region, 1 settlement and almost 1,000 consumers remain without power.

More than 100 customers remain without power in Mykolaiv region. Repairs are ongoing.

EXPORT/IMPORT

Commercial imports of electricity totalled 20 MWh over the past day. There were no exports.
