Today, May 24, the First Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine Stepan Kubiv opened the IV International Technical Regulation Forum in Lviv.
In his statement, the First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine stressed the Forum was a major step in the international development of science, education and business through raising the awareness of Ukrainian scientists and producers about the role of technical regulation and technical standards.
"Over the last three years, we have done a lot to implement international and European standards in Ukraine and have significantly transformed the system of technical regulation. Since 2016, 90% of Soviet GOSTs (State Standards) have been abolished, and instead, we have developed and adopted 5,105 national standards. This means that now 91% of these standards are harmonized with EU standards", said Stepan Kubiv.
The First Deputy Prime Minister reminded that at the beginning of the year Ukraine had acquired a full membership of the Metric Convention, which has resulted in the recognition of the Ukrainian system of measurement by all 59 countries signatories to the Convention.
"Membership of Ukraine in the Metric Convention is another instrument for promoting Ukrainian products to the international market, increasing the export of Ukrainian goods to the European and world markets. In this way, the Ukrainian system of measurements has gained international recognition and no longer needs additional confirmation, so it will save money on Ukrainian business and increase the competitiveness of Ukrainian products", said Stepan Kubiv.
According to him, Ukraine is steadfast in its efforts to create a high-quality national conformity assessment and accreditation system based on principles and practices in the global community. Stepan Kubiv added that the signing of an Agreement on Conformity Assessment and Acceptance of Industrial Products (ACAA) between Ukraine and the EU, under which Ukrainian results of tests and certification of products will be recognized at European level, will be the proof of that. He added that in the sector of conformity assessment in Ukraine, 73 technical regulations were adopted, 67 out of those were developed on the basis of EU laws. Due to this fact, the requirements for the safety of Ukrainian products have become identical to the European ones.
The IV International Technical Regulation Forum is held with the aim of developing science, education and business through the introduction of international standards in Ukraine, raising the awareness of Ukrainian scientists, specialists and manufacturers about the role of technical regulation.
