On May 14, Stepan Kubiv, First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine, met with Deputy Prime Minister for Economic and Demographic Policy of the Republic of Bulgaria Mariyana Nikolova.
During the meeting, Stepan Kubiv emphasized the strategic nature of the partnership between Ukraine and Bulgaria is of the strategic nature and thanked Bulgaria for supporting Ukraine, its sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as Ukraine's course towards European and Euro-Atlantic integration.
"Ukrainian-Bulgarian relations have a thousand-year history and significant potential nowadays. Mutual economic interest confirms the growth of trade volumes. Thus, on the outcomes of 2018, the trade turnover between Ukraine and Bulgaria increased by almost 25% and amounted to over $773 million. The trend maintains in January-February 2019, as the volume of trade in goods has already reached almost $155 million. This is by one third more than over a similar period of last year. After a 9-year break, we should resume the work of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation between Ukraine and Bulgaria, which will strengthen practical cooperation between our countries", Stepan Kubiv emphasized.
The First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine outlined prospective directions of cooperation between Ukraine and Bulgaria, inter alia infrastructure and transport, energy, innovation and industrial cooperation, as well as tourism.
"By joining efforts, we have resumed and expanded the direct Kyiv-Sofia air conveyance, Ukrainian companies provide services for the modernization of Bulgaria's energy generating stations, while trade and tourist flows between our countries are mutually increasing. At present, we must focus joint activities in the aforesaid and other promising areas, in particular, the development of bilateral tourism, transport links between countries, industrial and investment cooperation, as well as further deepen the partnership between the regions and cities of Ukraine and Bulgaria", Stepan Kubiv emphasized.
At the end of the meeting, Stepan Kubiv and Mariyana Nikolova together opened a memorial plaque devoted to the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and Ukraine.
