July 5, 2018, First Vice Prime Minister/Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine Stepan Kubiv met with Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Jiang Zengwei.
At the meeting, Stepan Kubiv emphasized that China is a strategic trading partner for Ukraine, and, as a result, strengthening cooperation between countries is an important task.
"In 2017, the volume of bilateral trade between Ukraine and China amounted to $7.7 billion, thereby demonstrating a 18% increase against the previous year showing. The growth trend continues in the current year: for the first quarter of 2018, bilateral trade amounted to almost $2 billion that is 18.7% higher over the similar period of last year", said the First Vice Prime Minister.
Stepan Kubiv added that the participation of Ukraine in the international exhibition "China International Import Expo-2018" in November in Shanghai would facilitate the promotion of bilateral business contacts.
"Ukraine will for the first time present its national stand at this international exhibition, and I believe that on the outcomes of the event Ukrainian products will increase its share in the imports of China. According to forecasts of Chinese experts, in 5 years their import will amount to $24 trillion", said Stepan Kubiv.
Moreover, the First Vice Prime Minister urged Chinese companies to collaborate with their Ukrainian colleagues in implementation of joint projects in the sectors of solar energy, agriculture, infrastructure development, including port infrastructure.
In turn, Natalia Mykolska, Deputy Minister of Ukraine/Trade Representative of Ukraine added that under the Export Strategy of Ukraine China is included in the top promising markets for Ukrainian exports, and therefore, further constructive cooperation means the expansion of volumes and types of products traded by the countries.
