  • Government simplifies mechanism for sending Ukrainian defenders abroad for treatment
Ministry of Health of Ukraine, posted 21 April 2023 19:30

The Government has adopted a resolution “On amendments to the Procedure for sending for treatment abroad persons from the defence and security forces wounded in connection with the military aggression of the russian federation against Ukraine”.

As the Prime Minister noted during the Government meeting, this was an important step towards ensuring that Ukraine’s defenders could receive the necessary treatment or rehabilitation abroad promptly and without extensive bureaucratic procedures.

“One of the Government’s priorities is the reform of medical and social expert commissions and military medical commissions. Today, we are adopting a resolution to simplify the travel of our wounded soldiers for treatment abroad. Now they will be able to receive such a referral at the medical facility where they are undergoing treatment or rehabilitation. No delays, no queues, no bureaucracy,” said Denys Shmyhal.

From now on, medical institutions where defenders of Ukraine are undergoing treatment and/or rehabilitation will be able to independently determine the need to send them abroad for treatment. It is no longer necessary to hold a consultative board of a military medical institution.

This means that the medical institution where the defender of Ukraine is being treated will independently make a conclusion on the need to send them for treatment abroad and will submit a package of documents to the relevant state body that is part of the security and defence sector.

Thus, the conclusion on the need to send a defender of Ukraine for treatment abroad will be made without a consultative board of a military medical institution.

“Ukrainian soldiers risk their lives and health every day to protect our lives and freedom. Our common task is to create all the conditions for providing them with all the necessary medical care. From now on, it will be much easier and faster for the military to get a referral for treatment abroad. With this decision, we have significantly simplified and improved the existing system of medical evacuation abroad for the military,” said Minister of Health Viktor Liashko.

The adopted decision will simplify the procedure for sending Ukraine’s defenders for treatment in European clinics, as one of the Government’s top priorities is to provide service members with the necessary medical and rehabilitation care.
