Ministry of Energy: russia carried out a drone strike on one of the buildings at the Centralized Spent Fuel Storage Facility

As a result of the direct hit, the building suffered partial destruction and a fire, which has now been extinguished. This was reported by the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.

There are no casualties. Radiation levels at the industrial site of the CSFSF remain within normal limits.

However, the very fact of an attack on infrastructure used for handling spent nuclear fuel constitutes an unprecedented threat to nuclear and radiation safety. Such actions create risks of damage to critical systems essential for the safe storage of nuclear materials and represent a blatant violation of international law, nuclear safety principles, and the fundamental principles of the IAEA.

The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine calls on the International Atomic Energy Agency to respond urgently to this latest act of russian nuclear terror, dispatch a mission to document the consequences of the attack, and provide an international assessment of russia’s actions.
