Sergii Marchenko: Approval of fourth National Risk Assessment sets financial monitoring priorities for the next three years
On 31 August, an extraordinary meeting of the Council on Prevention and Counteraction of Money Laundering, Financing of Terrorism and Financing of the Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction was held under the chairmanship of Minister of Finance of Ukraine Sergii Marchenko.
The principal item on the agenda was the approval of the report on the fourth round of the National Risk Assessment in this area.
“The fourth assessment covered 30 risks and, for the first time, shows how they have evolved. It demonstrates to the public and our international partners that the state is actively assessing its own risk landscape and developing measures to prevent financial misconduct. The report’s findings provide clear direction for supervisory and law enforcement authorities over the next three years, enabling them to protect the Ukrainian economy more effectively,” Sergii Marchenko emphasised.
The document was prepared using an updated methodology. Approval of the National Risk Assessment is an important indicator under the Ukraine Plan within the Ukraine Facility, a commitment under the EU Enlargement Package and a valuable evidence base as Ukraine prepares for the sixth round of mutual evaluation by MONEYVAL, the Council of Europe’s Committee of Experts.
Following the meeting, the Council approved the fourth National Risk Assessment report and instructed that a detailed action plan be prepared and submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, setting out measures to address and mitigate the identified risks.
The Ministry of Finance continues to take consistent steps in the field of anti-money laundering, strengthening the transparency of Ukraine’s financial system and its integration into the European framework.
