  • Ruslan Strilets: We synchronise efforts of the authorities and international partners for a sustainable heating season

Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Ruslan Strilets, together with Iryna Vereshchuk, Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine, representatives of the United Nations OCHA and executive authorities, discussed the provision of firewood to vulnerable populations in the frontline areas.

They focused on logistical and financial issues of firewood delivery. Given the limited state budget, the support of international partners is extremely important.

"We pay a lot of attention to the development of the timber market. Much has been done to bring it out of the shadows. Therefore, the State Agency of Forest Resources of Ukraine should develop a clear and transparent price for fuelwood for the regions as soon as possible. If necessary, adjust the logistics. Reduce the cost of firewood where possible. It should meet the needs of wartime. The enterprises of the State Enterprise "Forests of Ukraine" are completely capable of meeting the needs of the regions. Currently, we have more than 130,000 cubic metres of firewood in our storages," Ruslan Strilets said.

The Minister thanked international partners for supporting Ukrainians and noted that "we are taking joint steps to ensure that all citizens stay heated this winter."
