On the International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War, Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Ruslan Strilets spoke about the work on the implementation of Paragraph 8 of the Peace Formula and the drafting of the International Environmental Declaration.
“In fact, the main umbrella of all our actions is the Peace Formula of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. So far, some 25 countries have signed up to Paragraph 8, and Bulgaria, Finland and Germany have expressed their willingness to co-chair the International Working Group on the Environmental Consequences of War. Our goal is to unite as many states as possible to achieve justice and prevent ecocide in the future,” said Ruslan Strilets during the national telethon.
To implement Paragraph 8 of the Peace Formula, the Presidential Office has set up an International Working Group on the Environmental Consequences of War. The group is co-chaired by Andriy Yermak, Head of the Presidential Office, and Margot Wallström, former Swedish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The Minister also spoke about cooperation with the Prosecutor General’s Office and PricewaterhouseCoopers, and work on the draft International Environmental Declaration, which was presented by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources at the International Forum “United for Justice. United for Nature”. It will help to standardise tools for assessing environmental damage and bringing aggressors to justice.
