  • Ruslan Strilets met with Minister for Climate and the Environment of Sweden Romina Pourmokhtari

Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine Ruslan Strilets met with Minister for Climate and the Environment of Sweden Romina Pourmokhtari, during her visit to Kyiv.

"Sweden is one of the countries that support Ukraine the most. Since the beginning of russia's large-scale invasion, Sweden has provided more than EUR 2.4 billion in aid to Ukraine, which goes far beyond the environmental sector," said Ruslan Strilets.

During the meeting, Ruslan Strilets and Romina Pourmokhtari focused on discussing the implementation of paragraph 8 of Volodymyr Zelenskyy's Peace Formula, Sweden's accession to the Environmental Declaration, preparation of a ministerial event on the progress and further implementation of the Peace Formula, and further Swedish support for the environment. According to Romina Pourmohtari, Sweden is ready to support the Environmental Declaration. Negotiations on the document are currently underway.

They did not ignore the topic of the Swedish Government's continued support for Ukraine's environmental reforms. This includes environmental damage assessment, creation of a waste management system, and provision of technical support in the EU accession process.

"Certainly, in the context of the 38th anniversary of the Chornobyl accident, we touched upon the issue of ensuring nuclear safety in the world. I thanked Romina for his attention to this and his visit to the Exclusion Zone. By the way, in 1986, it was Sweden that was the first to report to the world about the increase in radiation levels and appealed to the soviet union for explanations," Ruslan Strilets said.

Ruslan Strilets showed the Minister for Climate and the Environment of Sweden the consequences of the 2022 hostilities in Borodyanka and the damaged forests of the Zdvyzhiv forestry in Kyiv region, as well as the remains of the occupiers' fortifications.

We thank the Minister and the Government of Sweden for supporting Ukraine in the face of russian armed aggression.
