Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, posted 03 July 2024 13:27

During his visit to the United States, Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko met with Geoffrey Pyatt, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State and G7+ Ukraine energy assistance coordinator.

The Minister of Energy briefed the Assistant Secretary of State on the state of the energy system affected by the russian attacks and the measures taken to strengthen the protection of the energy infrastructure.

“The situation in the energy system remains difficult. Energy is still one of the main targets of the russians. That is why we need to ensure the protection of energy facilities, in particular by air defence forces,” the Minister said.

Particular attention was paid to increasing the capacity of distributed generation and international support in this regard. The need was stressed not only for the supply of equipment, including gas turbines and gas piston plants, but also for the technical training of specialists to install and operate them. The possibility of attracting expert assistance from American specialists to build a model of a sustainable distributed generation system was also discussed.

German Galushchenko briefed Geoffrey Pyatt on a number of decisions taken by the Government to simplify regulatory procedures and encourage households and businesses to install additional generation capacity, including solar power plants.

The parties discussed areas for coordinating international cooperation to further support Ukraine’s energy sector and strengthen measures to protect it.
