The season of road repair activities, which stipulates for putting into practice inspections initiated by the Government of quality of already built and repaired roads, implementation of new norms for quality control of roads being constructed, as well as introduction of requirements for transportation of the oversized cargo, carried out by the structures of the State Service of Ukraine for Transport Safety. This was stated by Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman during a special meeting on the development of the road system.

"We can gradually start road repair activities. I would like to draw attention to the quality of the current and overhaul repairs, the Head of Government stressed, order on the roads and coordinated work on our weights complex are of utmost importance. Control must be ensured. We spend billions of hryvnias for construction, however, overloaded transport damages roads. We estimate that about 50% of the transport operates with violations of weight standards. We have to stop it."

According to the Prime Minister, throughout a week of efficient control on the roads the order will be introduced. And in 3-5 years the situation will fundamentally change. At that, the Head of Government proposed to engage the forces and tools of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in this process. That concerns, first of all, surveillance cameras. "We have, for example, 78 scales - let's put cameras and we will achieve success. I think leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs will gladly help", said Volodymyr Groysman.

Background

Last year, over 2,000 km of road network was repaired and built in Ukraine, which was a record indicator for our country. This year, the volumes of activities will be increased, and the total road budget will exceed UAH 45 billion.
