Today, 15 January, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Ihor Klymenko, and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany, Martin Jaeger, attended a ceremony to hand over about 100 vehicles to the National Police and the National Guard of Ukraine. The vehicles will be used to protect public order and the critical infrastructure of Ukraine.
At the beginning of the event, Ihor Klymenko thanked the German partners for their continued support of Ukraine and stressed that the aid package would reinforce the units of the National Police and the National Guard as well as help protect citizens from crime and guard critical infrastructure.
"The invaluable assistance of the Federal Republic of Germany will allow us to continue to perform our core functions of protecting our citizens from crime at a high level and will enable us to respond quickly to the challenges we face every day. And unfortunately, due to the war, these challenges are increasing, but thanks to you, this response will be faster and more professional," the Minister of Internal Affairs said, addressing the partners.
In his turn, German Ambassador Martin Jaeger noted that it was an honour for him to be in Ukraine and personally hand over the aid that will be sent to the Security and Defence Forces of the National Guard and the National Police of Ukraine.
"Ukraine continues its heroic struggle against russian aggression - and each of you plays an important role in this process. Without the daily work of the National Guard and the National Police, security in Ukraine cannot be guaranteed. For me as Ambassador and for the entire German Government, cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine is an important aspect of our partnership, and the vehicles donated are only part of the support we provide to the Ministry. Our fruitful cooperation will be ongoing," said Martin Jaeger, handing over the certificate for the vehicles to the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Ihor Klymenko.
At the end of the event, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and the Ambassador of Germany inspected the vehicles.
"We are sincerely grateful to our partners from Germany for the transfer of the vehicles, which strengthen the capabilities of the National Police and the National Guard of Ukraine. Today, we must give every citizen a sense of security and support, and such assistance is an important step in this direction," added Ihor Klymenko.
In total, in 2024, in addition to 100 vehicles, the public order units of the National Police and the National Guard received computer equipment and protective equipment from the German Government.
