The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, the Secretariat of the Energy Community and the USAID Project on Energy Security signed a Memorandum of Understanding, designating the USAID Project as an independent procurement agency for the Ukraine Energy Support Fund. The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine for European Integration Yaroslav Demchenkov, Director of the Energy Community Secretariat Artur Lorkowski and USAID representative in Ukraine for energy issues Ashley King.

Cooperation within the framework of the Memorandum aims to ensure the rapid procurement of equipment for the prompt restoration of energy supply to ensure a stable passage of the heating season, as well as materials and equipment for critical infrastructure repairs needed in the medium and long term.

"This year, Ukraine is to face the most challenging heating season in recent decades. russian troops are destroying critical energy infrastructure, leaving hundreds of thousands Ukrainian families without electricity. Energy workers, showing considerable fortitude and courage, risking their lives from time to time, restore electricity to Ukrainian households. However, in order to ensure a stable heating season in the conditions of war, it is necessary to promptly carry out repair activities. Our joint efforts with the Energy Community Secretariat and the USAID Project on Energy Security regarding the transparent distribution of funds of the Ukraine Energy Support Fund will facilitate the prompt delivery of quality equipment for the restoration of damaged critical infrastructure. The support of our partners will be one of the key factors in ensuring a stable passage of the heating season in the conditions of russian military aggression, when our energy facilities are subjected to shelling, undergo massive destruction of networks and energy equipment", Yaroslav Demchenkov emphasized.

    Background

The Ukraine Energy Support Fund was created by the Energy Community with the support of the European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson.

Consolidated funds from the Fund's donors are directed to the restoration of the energy infrastructure that was damaged or destroyed as a result of hostilities on the territory of Ukraine, initiated by russian military aggression.

The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine coordinates the requests of Ukrainian companies to carry out relevant restoration works. At the same time, it is envisaged that the procedure for selecting suppliers will be implemented by an international procurement agency with experience in the field of energy.
