Fellow compatriots!

On behalf of the Government and me personally, I congratulate you on the Day of the National Flag of Ukraine!

For us, Ukrainians, the blue and yellow flag has always been and is a special symbol of not only stateness, but also of the age-old struggle for it. Millions of our compatriots walked under this flag to fight to the death in a struggle to gain state independence. The Ukrainian People's Republic and the Ukrainian State at the beginning of the twentieth century have chosen this ensign  as the state symbol. Ukrainian dissidents armed with a blue and yellow flag the colors of which became part of our national consciousness fought a totalitarian system,

Under the blue and yellow flag, our defenders protect the Motherland from the enemy in the east. We know how the aggressor reacts to our flag, because it reminds them of the unconquerable Ukrainian spirit.

Today, we have to give meaning to our flag. In the world the blue and yellow ensign must be associated with the prosperous state, which succeeded in pursuing reforms, modernizing the industry, liberalizing the economy and business, establishing unprecedented rule of law, and creating  a harmonious society of equal citizens. In the strategic perspective, the  national flag should be the flag of a member state of the European Union and the North Atlantic Alliance.

I am confident that we  are able to make our flag known all over the world as a symbol of the advanced state, which  takes a worthy place among developed, open and equitable societies.
