Fellow Ukrainian citizens!
30 years ago, in the session hall of the Verkhovna Rada, the constitutional majority adopted the Declaration of State Sovereignty.
This act formed the basis of the state, political and economic system of Ukraine: the republican form of government, "the supremacy, independence, integrity and indivisibility of the Republic’s authority within the boundaries of its territory".
The Declaration also determined the foundations of economic independence: independent banking, financial, customs and tax systems, the right to form a state budget and have its national currency. Ukraine's economic progress is still being formed on these principles.
The principles of Ukraine's economic independence, which were established 30 years ago, allow us today to teach our children in Ukrainian schools, pursue reforms, effectively protect small and medium-sized businesses, preserve existing and create new jobs, and support vulnerable populations.
The might and power of this document for the 30 years have been provided and, I believe, for the next hundreds of years will provide our country a boost to development and the opportunity to be part of the community of developed countries.
Apart from that, the Declaration became the foundation of the referendum on Independence on December 1, 1991, where over 90% of citizens voted in support. That fact confirmed that Ukrainians are ready to assume responsibility for the fate of their country.
I believe that it is this responsibility, demonstrated by both the MPs and all Ukrainians, that should motivate us to make effective and deliberate decisions. We must all work for the good of Ukraine. I call on everyone to be united in thought and action. I express my gratitude to everyone who wrote this story, I am grateful to everyone who defends it today at the cost of their lives. I congratulate everyone on the 30th anniversary of our sovereignty! Happy holiday! Glory to Ukraine!
