Organizing school camps and mutual information support for GoCamp and GoCamp AfterSchool projects. Such cooperation is envisaged by the Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation between the NGO Global Office and the Ministry of Education and Science (MES), signed today, August 8, 2019, in Kozyn, Kyiv region.
The document was inked by Minister of Education and Science Lilia Hrynevych and Director of the Global Office Oksana Nechyporenko. Its main purpose is to jointly promote foreign language learning in Ukrainian schools.
Over the four years of the GoCamp project's development and implementation, with joint efforts they have managed to bring over 1,000 foreign volunteers from 70 countries to Ukraine and inspire 200,000 children to master English, German and French.
Liliya Hrynevych noted that GoCamp foreign language teachers and educators of the Teachers - Agents of Change project were among the first agents of the reform of the New Ukrainian School. They were among the first educators in Ukraine to abandon the routine practice of lessons and to launch a new teaching school with the focus on the interests of the students themselves.
“These are the interactive techniques that empower teachers here while preparation for language camps. I greatly appreciate it and believe that training for these camps is a large growth area. And I assure you that Global Office is one of the key partners in the New Ukrainian School ecosystem. And we appreciate every teacher who has joined in building our joint reform. Much of what we have managed to do is due to such passionate teams that had a goal and reached it, often without receiving appropriate esteem. But it is just such people that keep the world going”, the Minister added.
GoCamp Summer Camps teach new material through gaming, while children master 21st Century competencies: leadership, creativity, critical thinking and the basics of the democracy. Thanks to the systematic support of the MES, 1,500 GoCamp teachers have mastered an innovative teaching methodology. After all, the GoCamp curriculum components have become part of the Ministry of Education and Science secondary school reform.
In addition, a new educational project “BombeZNO” was launched this year: it is an intensive preparation of graduates for ZNO (EIT – external independent testing) in Ukrainian language and literature in the border cities and towns of the Zakarpattia and Chernivtsi regions. Thanks to the cooperation of the Ministry of Education and Science and GoGlobal, over 400 eleventh-graders from Hungarian and Romanian-speaking families have undergone express training for the EIT in the Ukrainian language and literature curriculum.
The Ministry of Education and Science, in synergy with the Global Office, will continue to strengthen cooperation to promote foreign languages in secondary school. In particular, the third wave of GoCamp-2019 will take place from 12 to 23 August throughout Ukraine, during which 111 foreign volunteers will work in summer camps and help to master foreign languages. Unique bilingual GoCamp Camps will be held for Chernivtsi and Zakarpattia regions - students from national minorities will be helped to learn Ukrainian and English.
