  • Denys Shmygal: The priority direction for the Ministry is elaboration of national coal regions fair transformation program

    President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, Minister of Communities and Territories Development Denys Shmygal will chair the Coordinating centre for the transformation of the coal industry of Ukraine.

    "The Government should establish the Coordinating centre for the transformation of the coal industry headed by Deputy Prime Minister Denys Shmygal. It is necessary to include representatives of coal enterprises, local authorities, heads of regional state administrations in the composition of representatives of coal enterprises. Problems related to the further development of the industry need to be addressed systematically", Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during the All-Ukrainian Meeting of Coal Industry Workers.

    Denys Shmygal, in his turn, stressed that the state should address the problems in the coal industry because it is a question of the existence of more than 60 cities

    "At present, the priority for the Ministry is the elaboration of a National Coal Regions Fair Transformation Program. This is a long-term program. We have already had 3 meetings with the leadership of the World Bank, international experts, and heads of mining trade unions. We will work together on the development of better transformations of the industry," the Deputy Prime Minister said.

    It should be noted that on February 25, the All-Ukrainian Meeting of Coal Industry Workers of Ukraine chaired by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy took place in Kyiv. The issues related to wage arrears of the miners, privatization of coal enterprises, import of coal, etc. were discussed.
