At a meeting on September 8, the Government endorsed a bill to strengthen accountability in the provision of social services.

According to Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, the document should prevent situations in which institutions for the provision of social services do not meet their purpose and pose a threat to people, such as when a fire broke in a home for the elderly in Kharkiv.

"The social sphere is an area where any disruptions in work, abuses, manipulations by service providers must be brought to naught. The social function of the state must operate smoothly. It is the obligation of the state to its citizens," the Head of Government stressed.

Denys Shmyhal noted that by now there is no mechanism for control and liability for violations of legislation in the field of social services. Therefore, the Government proposes to introduce fines, the amount of which will vary depending on the violations: from ten to two thousand non-taxable minimum incomes (from UAH 11,400 to UAH 2,300,000).
