The Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia Anže Logar tackled the strengthening of bilateral cooperation during a meeting on March 16.
The PM expressed hope that Slovenia’s presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of this year would strengthen bilateral cooperation, in particular on the path to Ukraine’s full membership in the EU.
"Ukraine hopes that Slovenian presidency of the Council of the European Union will strengthen the consolidation of EU policy in support of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our state. Ukraine's integration into the EU is our strategic goal and underlies the activities of the state leadership and the Government," said Denys Shmyhal.
The Prime Minister added that Ukraine intends to develop the Eastern Partnership with effective projects that will benefit both the population and business.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister thanked the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia for technical assistance in the implementation of systemic reforms in Ukraine, primarily in the issue of administrative decentralization.
"We have an example of excellent cooperation at the level of local communities when people have the opportunity to personally share experiences. These are concrete steps that unite our countries at the level of society," Denys Shmyhal stressed.
Moreover, the Prime Minister noted the growing trends in mutual trade between Ukraine and Slovenia and added that these positive changes provide an opportunity to further increase trade.
In addition, Denys Shmyhal welcomed the launch of the dialogue between Ukraine and Slovenia in the field of cybersecurity and noted that it is necessary to develop and strengthen cooperation.
The Prime Minister expresses gratitude to the Slovenian side for its strong support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine. He noted that Ukraine is counting on Slovenia's participation in the Crimean Platform summit.
Finally, Denys Shmyhal accepted the invitation of Prime Minister Janez Janša to visit the Republic of Slovenia as soon as the epidemic situation is favorable.
