  • Prime Minister of Ukraine met with the Marshal of the Senate of Poland

    Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal and the Marshal of the Senate of the Republic of Poland Tomasz Grodzki discussed cooperation within the framework of joint initiatives, strengthening defense capabilities and trade and economic relations.

    The Head of the Ukrainian Government thanked the Senate of the Republic of Poland for adopting the resolution "On Support for Ukraine" on February 4 this year. And also for providing Poland with economic, military and humanitarian aid to our country.

    "The unity of the world around our country shows an understanding of the threats posed to world democracy. And today a strong Ukrainian army is the key to the security of Ukraine and Europe," said Denys Shmyhal.

    The Prime Minister welcomed the enhanced coordination between the Ministries of Defense of both countries and stressed the need to strengthen cooperation within the "Strategic Dialogue" of the defense ministries.

    "We can see significant potential for cooperation not only within the Lublin Triangle, but also within the LITPOLUKRbrig framework. Participation in this initiative is an important tool for three of our countries to strengthen our defense capabilities," said the Head of the Ukrainian Government.

    Denys Shmyhal confirmed his intention to visit Warsaw on March 14 this year to take part in the first meeting of the heads of government of the Lublin Triangle.

    In addition, during the meeting, the Prime Minister of Ukraine noted the positive trend of increasing trade turnover between the two countries. According to him, the volume of trade in goods and services in 2021 amounted to USD 10.9 billion (36% more than in 2020).

    "Poland is one of the main trade and economic partners and the largest investors in Ukraine's economy. We welcome the positive developments in the issue of increasing the number of road transport permits, and we also appreciate Poland's support in the project of building checkpoints at the common border," said Denys Shmyhal.

    For his part, the Marshal of the Senate of the Republic of Poland assured that their country is ready to help Ukraine in meeting the criteria for joining the EU and NATO. Tomasz Grodzki also added that the Polish people are absolutely united in supporting our state, and this visit to Kyiv is a proof of Poland's solidarity with Ukraine.
