Preparations for the heating season are on schedule and the Government is taking a number of steps to prevent changes in energy tariffs for the population, Prime Minister Denys Shmygal told at the media conference on September 14.
The PM stressed that the current price of gas on world markets is at record highs and under some agreements, it already exceeds $700 per 1,000 cubic meters. Meanwhile, the Government and NJSC Naftogaz, as a state-owned company, act as guarantees that the price of gas for the population will not change and will remain at the level fixed by annual contracts. The Head of Government reminded that the price of gas under the annual contract of Naftogaz amounts to UAH 7.96.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the Government is also exerting every effort to ensure that tariffs for heating and water supply do not increase and remain at last year's level. In particular, communal heating providers was offered a gas price of UAH 7.44.
"Tariffs in the heating supply services sector are within the scope of responsibility of local governments. It is the local authority that sets tariffs and seeks balancing mechanisms, for which local budgets have a significant resource. This year, local budget revenues amount to UAH 509 billion, which is almost half of the state budget. For its part, the Government is taking a number of steps to prevent tariff increases. In particular, we are currently working to compensate for the difference in tariffs," the Prime Minister said.
Besides, Denys Shmyhal accentuated that Ukraine is 90% ready for the heating season.
"18 billion cubic meters of gas have been pumped into gas storage facilities, which is more than the average for the last 10 years for this period. We expect an increase in reserves to 19 billion and more cubic meters of gas," told Denys Shmyhal.
