From February 26, a red level of epidemic danger will be introduced in Ivano-Frankivsk region while restrictive measures will be intensified.
The decision was made by the State Commission on Technogenic and Environmental Safety and Emergencies, which met on February 23 under the chairmanship of Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal.
"The situation in Ivano-Frankivsk region today remains tense and is far from improving both in terms of bed occupancy and in terms of sick and hospitalized. We have experience of isolating areas at the beginning of a pandemic, which halted the spread of the infection. Therefore, we must make a balanced and correct decision to prevent further aggravation of the situation," said the Prime Minister.
According to Deputy Minister of Health - Chief State Sanitary Doctor Viktor Liashko, in Ivano-Frankivsk region since the beginning of the year the weekly number of new cases of COVID-19 has increased 6 times, and over the past week the increase has made up 30%.
"The level of hospitalization during the last week is twice the rate set by the Cabinet of Ministers (60 people per 100,000 population). Ivano-Frankivsk region remains the only region in Ukraine where the number of beds with oxygen exceeds 50%, even taking into account extra beds," said Viktor Liashko.
The Chief State Sanitary Doctor added that despite one of the highest rates of hospital beds provision in the country, in Ivano-Frankivsk region beds in intensive care units are occupied by 82%, and in almost half of hospitals - by 100%.
In this regard, the State Commission on Technogenic and Environmental Safety and Emergencies decided to introduce from 00:00 on February 26 a red level of epidemic danger with the restrictions provided by the current resolution №1236. In addition to these restrictions, taking up and setting down passengers on regular and non-scheduled interregional flights by rail, air and road to and from the settlements of Ivano-Frankivsk region will be prohibited.
The Head of Government commissioned the Head of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional State Administration to organize checkpoints at the entrances and exits in the region and to ensure the involvement of medical workers for temperature screening, interviewing people for respiratory symptoms, as well as shifts of emergency healthcare service brigades, national police and State Emergency Service employees.
