The Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal has given a commission to the First Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Economy Oleksiy Lyubchenko to announce a competition for the selection of four independent members of the Supervisory Board of Naftogaz of Ukraine within a week.
The Head of Government told on the outcomes of a meeting with members of the company's Supervisory Board.
The relevant order was given to implement the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine of July 30, 2021 "On measures to neutralize threats in the energy sector", enacted by the Decree of the President of Ukraine of August 28, 2021 № 452.
"The Government of Ukraine once again demonstrates the invariability of its position and commitment to the introduction of OECD standards on corporate governance in the public sector of Ukraine's economy. Naftogaz of Ukraine should get a Supervisory Board, the members of which have to be elected in line with OECD standards in a transparent and competitive manner," the Prime Minister stressed.
Denys Shmyhal emphasized that the criteria for selecting and evaluating the performance of such members should be professional and qualification characteristics, experience that would correspond to the company's strategy, in particular in terms of increasing gas production, investment, energy and fuel from renewable energy sources, trade as well as energy and fuel supply.
The competitive selection should end in November 2021. After that, the new composition of the Supervisory Board must determine the requirements for the candidate for the position of Chairman of the Board and hold a competition for his selection no later than May 1, 2022.
