The Prime Minister of Ukraine Oleksiy Honcharuk checked the preparedness for the heating season together with the Minister of Energy and the Environmental Protection Oleksiy Orzhel and First Deputy Chairman of the Naftogaz of Ukraine Serhii Pereloma.
“We have sufficient gas volumes in our underground storage facilities - a record showing in recent years - over 21 billion cubic meters. All 11 gas storage facilities have been used,” said the Head of Government. “Naftogaz and Ukrtransgaz have conducted all possible activities to simulate critical situations. From weather deterioration to termination of transit. The resource will be provided to the homes of Ukrainians: all the agencies have demonstrated complete preparedness.”
Oleksiy Honcharuk stresses that the Government is working to continue gas transit and engages in trilateral negotiations. The implementation of European gas rules on the separating of gas transmission from gas production and supply (unbundling) is an advantage in the negotiations, which strengthens Ukraine's position.
“Transit brings us $ 2-3 billion per annum, guarantees Europe's energy security, strengthens our competitiveness in the international arena,” the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the Ukrainian gas transmission system remains 100% owned by the state.
At that, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of implementing European gas rules and expressed his hope that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine would support in its second reading bill No. 2239-1 on unbundling.
