The implementation of a five-year plan for connecting the regional centers of Ukraine with high-quality motor road infrastructure remains among the priorities of the Government, and one of the first projects of this plan will be the renovation of the Kyiv-Chernihiv route. This was announced by Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman during his visit of Chernihiv. The Head of Government visited the region to check the quality of road network being constructed in the region.

Volodymyr Groysman stressed that road repairs are underway throughout the country, and more than half of the planned work has already been completed. At the same time, apart from the routes of national and international importance, also local roads are rehabilitated at the expense of the funding worth UAH 11.5 billion allocated frrom the state budget this year.

"We are planning to sign an agreement with international financial organizations this autumn to the tune of EUR160 million that would be directed to complete reconstruction of the Kyiv-Chernihiv route. The construction activities will commence in the spring", stressed the Prime Minister. "And I emphasize: it is crucial to build a road. Moreover, it is necessary to adhere to traffic safety standards – road marking, safety islands, installing speed limiter devices."

Background

This year, the planned volume of road works is about 4 thousand km, which is the largest showing in the last decade. The amount of planned financing is about UAH 47 billion, which also exceeds the performance of past periods. This year, the Government launched 500-500-1000 initiative that envisages the construction of 500 new traffic circles, 500 island sites and 1000 crosswalks, thereby contributing to the overall safety on the roads. Another line of the initiative is carrying out inspections of vehicles for compliance with the standards of loading and technical conditions.
