The rehabilitation system in Ukraine should be accessible to every citizen who needs it. This was emphasized by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during a meeting on the implementation of rehabilitation assistance programs in 2022.

The discussion gathered together Minister of Health Viktor Liashko, Minister of Social Policy Maryna Lazebna, Minister for Veterans’ Affairs Yulia Laputina, Deputy Head of the Office of the President Yulia Sokolovska, Adviser-Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for the Barrier-Free Environment Tetyana Lomakina and representatives of ministries.

"In Ukraine, there is an urgent need to improve the provision of rehabilitation services to citizens. Today's outdated system does not take into account modern approaches and recommendations for disease prevention - it focuses only on diagnosis, while services are provided in fragments in different institutions. Our goal is a comprehensive approach to providing all types of rehabilitation assistance, which will be available to every Ukrainian who needs it," said Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.

During the meeting, members of the Government reported on the steps taken by each ministry to develop the rehabilitation system. Deputy Head of the Office of the President Yulia Sokolovska also informed about the Law of Ukraine "On Rehabilitation in Health Care", which had been signed by the President on December 3, 2020. The document introduces the provision of quality rehabilitation care directly in health care facilities from the very beginning of the disease or injury.

Following the meeting, the Prime Minister commissioned all agencies to draft a roadmap for the development of the rehabilitation system and make calculations to create a modern infrastructure for rehabilitation assistance so that it becomes available to everyone who needs such a service. The Head of Government also instructed the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Social Policy to prepare a legal framework for the introduction of the Law of Ukraine "On Rehabilitation in Health Care".
