During adaptive quarantine, local authorities have the right to strengthen quarantine restrictions. The Government has given all the powers to do so. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal emphasized in his introductory statement during the March 17 session of the Government.
"All powers are now devolved to local authorities. Nowadays, community leaders have the opportunity to introduce stricter quarantine by their decisions, so I urge not to wait for instructions, but to assume such responsibility," the Prime Minister stressed.
The Head of Government noted that the number of hospitalizations had recently increased, and the new COVID-19 stamps were leading to more serious complications. Meanwhile, after the introduction of red level restrictions in Ivano-Frankivsk region, according to him, the situation has tended to stabilize.
"Currently, there is clear evidence that adaptive quarantine is an effective mechanism and it works. Three weeks ago, a red level of restrictions was introduced in Ivano-Frankivsk region, and now we can see that the situation there has stabilized somewhat. Hospitalization rates are declining, as is the number of new cases," said Denys Shmyhal.
The Prime Minister also noted that if a red level of epidemic danger is introduced in the vast majority of regions, the Government will be forced to introduce enhanced quarantine measures throughout the country.
"If we all carefully adhere to anti-epidemic restrictions, if we reduce social contacts, a lockdown will not be necessary," the Head of Government summed up.
