Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal met with President of Portugal Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa. The parties discussed comprehensive assistance, the development of economic cooperation and the reconstruction of Ukraine.
The Head of Ukrainian Government thanked for the military support, in particular for the proposal of the President of Portugal to help Ukraine train pilots and create the necessary infrastructure.
“Ukraine needs F-16 aircraft as soon as possible to fully protect our country from russian missiles and drones,” said Denys Shmyhal.
According to the Prime Minister, Ukraine appreciates Portugal’s support for European initiatives. In particular, the parties discussed the importance of the Ukraine Facility programme as an instrument demonstrating Europe’s long-term support and solidarity with Ukraine. The Head of Government expressed his gratitude for a deep understanding of Ukraine’s priorities and for consistent support in countering russian aggression.
For his part, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa noted Portugal’s readiness to assist Ukraine in restoring infrastructure and to share its experience in Euro-Atlantic integration.
The Prime Minister of Ukraine and the President of Portugal also discussed the resumption of the Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation this year.
