The Government is gearing up for all possible scenarios during the heating season to avoid the worst of those. This was emphasised by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during a Government session on August 8.

"In the midst of summer, power engineers are preparing for winter. As always, there is a lot of speculation about the heating season. We are not going to downplay the threats, risks and challenges of this heating season. However, we believe that citizens should be informed about the real state of affairs," the Head of Government stressed.

The Prime Minister said that according to the Ministry of Energy, five nuclear units with a capacity of 4.4 GW had been repaired. Four more units with a capacity of 3.4 GW are under repair. In addition, 24 power units of thermal power plants either have been repaired or are under repair. This is 62% of the total number, with a capacity of 4.3 GW. Of the combined heat and power plants that provide heat to people in many places, 70% have been repaired, and another 30% are currently under repair. Hydroelectric power plants. 32 hydroelectric units, or 68% of the capacity, which is almost 1.8 GW, either have been repaired or are under repair.

"All these data from the Ministry of Energy show that the repair campaign is going according to plan. On the part of Ukrenergo, we have almost 80% of the work on the repair of trunk grids. In particular, high-voltage substations have already been restored to the level of the pre-war state," said Denys Shmyhal.

The Head of Government noted that Ukraine was forming a multi-level protection for energy facilities. "The winter will be challenging, but we have to survive. We are gettng everything necessary ready for that."
