  • Prime Minister sets the task of creating a working group to implement the project of equipping educational institutions with protective shelters

    On September 15, the Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal chaired a meeting to tackle the provision of secondary education institutions with civil defense protective structures.

    The meeting also gathered together the Minister of Education and Science Serhii Shkarlet, representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development, the Ministry of Finance and the State Emergency Service.

    The Head of the Government emphasized that it is vital to urgently build or equip shelters according to new standards in those schools where they do not yet exist.

    "All schools must be equipped with reliable shelters. In schools where shelters are inside the building, and according to the data of the State Emergency Service, need reinforcement of the structure, do it. Where it is impossible to strengthen, build new ones next to the schools," said Denys Shmyhal.

    The Prime Minister emphasized that it is necessary to develop a general concept of security in educational institutions with clear requirements for bomb shelters, so that to ensure full-fledged education be provided there.

    "We must establish a working group, whose activities will result into development of clear parameters, necessary changes in project documentation, allocation of funds and implementation of the project," the Head of the Government urged.

    As the Minister of Education and Science, Serhii Shkarlet, reported, by now 68% of secondary education institutions were equipped with shelters. As of July 5, this figure was 11%. Serhii Shkarlet also noted that for the next year, a subvention in the amount of UAH 1.5 billion is planned for the construction of special buildings or shelters in general secondary education institutions.
