Strengthening liability for violations in waste management: Government approves two draft laws
Administrative and criminal liability for violations in the field of waste management will be strengthened. The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the relevant draft laws, developed by the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture, at its meeting on 10 June.
This decision is an important step towards building a transparent and responsible waste management system. It will promote compliance with established rules by all market participants, improve the effectiveness of state control, and help prevent violations in waste management.
The documents were prepared in implementation of the Law of Ukraine “On Waste Management” and are aimed at improving the mechanisms of liability for non-compliance with legislation in this area.
The implementation of these draft laws will contribute to more effective waste management, reduce their negative impact on the environment and human health, and further align Ukrainian legislation with European standards. The draft laws are as follows:
- “On Amendments to the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offences regarding the improvement of liability for offences in the field of waste management”;
- “On Amendments to the Criminal Code of Ukraine regarding the improvement of liability for criminal offences against the environment and in the field of waste management”.
