Sowing campaign 2026 nears completion: farmers have already sown 97% of planned grain areas


As of 2 June, Ukrainian farmers had sown 5.84 million hectares of grain and legume crops, representing 97% of the forecast area.

The areas sown include:

  • Spring wheat – 186,200 ha;
  • Spring barley – 713,400 ha;
  • Peas – 259,500 ha;
  • Oats – 137,500 ha;
  • Maize – 4,336,600 ha;
  • Millet – 37,600 ha;
  • Buckwheat – 51,100 ha.

The sowing campaign remains most active in the Poltava, Chernihiv, Vinnytsia, Kyiv and Cherkasy regions.

The top three regions by area sown are:

  • Poltava region – 594,100 ha (wheat – 4,900 ha; barley – 65,100 ha; peas – 12,100 ha; oats – 1,900 ha; maize – 502,500 ha);
  • Chernihiv region – 567,000 ha (wheat – 10,000 ha; barley – 15,000 ha; peas – 9,200 ha; oats – 16,800 ha; maize – 506,400 ha);
  • Vinnytsia region – 481,600 ha (wheat – 10,000 ha; barley – 55,000 ha; peas – 8,000 ha; oats – 1,000 ha; maize – 396,100 ha).

At the same time, the sowing of other strategically important crops is also nearing completion. Industrial crops have been sown on 6.9 million hectares, or 95% of the forecast area.

In particular:

  • Sugar beet has been sown on 190,000 ha (96% of the forecast area);
  • Sunflower covers 4.73 million ha (95%);
  • Soybeans account for almost 2 million ha (96% of the planned area).
