After synchronization with ENTSO-E we can increase the capacity of networks between Europe and Ukraine up to 5 GW, says German Galushchenko
Synchronization will allow to significantly increase the reliability of operation of the Ukrainian power system and ensure security of electricity supply to consumers.
Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko stressed in his column in Ekonomichna Pravda [the Economic Truth] "Energy visa-free regime. A united front with Europe."
"Synchronization of power grids of Ukraine and Europe unites us on one of the essential levels – energy sector. This means that Ukraine has terminated the last connection with the dictatorship regimes of russia and belarus, which has been forcefully preserved since the Soviet times. The next - and final - step of Ukraine's European integration is now political integration. This is what makes joining ENTSO-E so important for us," said German Galushchenko.
Ukraine is now part of a large energy space.
"We are forming a single energy space with the EU, a joint "energy front". If we have an emergency, we are guaranteed to receive electricity from Europe. "If we need to urgently cover European needs - we can do it," said the Minister.
He notes that in the future there is an opportunity to increase the capacity of power grids between Ukraine and Europe.
"There are a number of other technological initiatives that will allow us to increase the capacity of our power grids, the actual capacity between the UES of Ukraine and the ENTSO-E countries up to 4 and even 5 GW. This is more than the previous section between the UES of Ukraine and russia, it was about 3 GW. Synchronization will significantly increase the reliability of our power system, reduce the cost of electricity production through more economical use of generating capacity. And, therefore, it will increase the security of electricity supply to consumers," German Galushchenko summed up.
