Support for IDPs, combating human trafficking, and cooperation with Ukrainians abroad: Ministry of Social Policy, Family and Unity, and IOM agree on areas for further cooperation
A team from the Ministry of Social Policy, Family, and Unity of Ukraine, led by Denys Uliutin, met with Robert Turner, Chief of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Mission in Ukraine.
The parties discussed priority areas for joint work, in particular support for internally displaced persons, combating human trafficking, assistance to victims of the russian federation's armed aggression, and the development of cooperation with the Ukrainian diaspora.
The Minister thanked the IOM for its long-standing partnership and contribution to responding to the humanitarian challenges caused by the war.
"We sincerely appreciate the support of the International Organization for Migration, which systematically assists Ukraine – from combating human trafficking to supporting victims of war. Our common goal is to make state social policy more sustainable, based on data collection through digital tools and international standards. A policy that supports human dignity and confidence in the future," emphasized Denys Uliutin.
As of today, there are over 4.5 million internally displaced persons registered in Ukraine, of whom over 3.3 million were forced to leave their homes after the start of the full-scale invasion. In this regard, it is important to continue to attract international funding for social support for IDPs.
Special attention was paid to combating human trafficking. IOM will continue to support training and educational initiatives, particularly for social workers in communities, and will also work to support victims.
The Minister also commended IOM's leading role in establishing the Global Alliance for Diaspora Engagement in Ukraine's Reconstruction – an international platform that will bring together governments, international organizations, donors, and Ukrainian communities around the world to participate jointly in the restoration and development of the state.
In addition, the parties discussed opportunities for further cooperation in the form of expert and analytical support to the Ministry in developing policies in the field of return, reintegration, and strengthening ties with Ukrainians abroad, particularly in the context of developing a network of Unity Hubs.
