Minister of Health of Ukraine Viktor Liashko and Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan Keizo Takemi signed a memorandum of cooperation between the ministries of the two countries.

The Memorandum envisages cooperation in key areas of healthcare, such as the development of cooperation between medical institutions, medical education and training, and the prevention and control of infectious diseases, including pandemics. Particular attention will be paid to the development of telemedicine and e-health, as well as the exchange of experience in the field of pharmaceuticals and medical technologies.

‘The signed memorandum lays the foundation for cooperation in many areas, such as combating infectious and non-infectious diseases, introducing the latest technologies into medical practice, telemedicine, pharmaceuticals, professional development of healthcare professionals, and cooperation between healthcare institutions. Japan's experience in medicine, advanced technologies and innovative approaches will help strengthen our medical system and improve the quality of medical services. For our part, we can share our experience in responding to emergencies and military and man-made threats, as well as building a sustainable healthcare system in the face of wars and disasters. For more than two years now, our healthcare professionals have been working in extremely difficult conditions, saving the lives of both military and civilians under fire and attack," said Viktor Liashko, Minister of Health of Ukraine.

The purpose of the memorandum is to exchange knowledge and experience, improve the professional training of medical personnel and strengthen the capacity of healthcare systems in both countries.

The document was signed for five years and is an important step in strengthening relations between Ukraine and Japan. The cooperation opens up new opportunities for hospitals in Ukraine and Japan and contributes to the improvement of the Ukrainian healthcare system based on international practices.

The Ministry of Health of Ukraine continues to work closely with the Government of Japan to support and restore the healthcare sector. Priority areas include the purchase of special equipment for Ukrainian healthcare facilities, projects to exchange experience in emergency medical care, rehabilitation and countering the spread of antimicrobial resistance, and humanitarian aid.
