The pension reform offered by the Government has created new opportunities for systemic increase of payments for citizens, including military retirees and those people, who have large labour experience, but receive minimum retirement payments. This was announced by Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman on air of the TV Channel «Ukraine» .

"This (all results achieved) does not mean that in 2017 -2018 we made recalculation of pensions and that’s all. We have opened up opportunities for constant increase in payments for citizens. At present, we are solving the issue of raising pensions for those who had long service record, but receive low-level of superannuation. These are collective farmers, those who get salaries in envelope and etc.  We will tackle this serious question, " the Head of Government stressed.

    Background

The pension reform came into effect in the fall of 2017. Its principal innovations are the preservation of retirement age, abolition of pension equalization that is fair for people who worked hard all life, cancellation of taxes on pensions for working pensioners as well as special pensions, and establishment of a norm of automatic recalculation of pensions which prevents political manipulations in the system of pension payments .

In October 2017, almost 10 million retirees received increased pensions. At the same time, it was possible  to prevent the growth of the Pension Fund deficit due to raising the minimum wage and deshadowing of salaries.

In April 2018, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine introduced the next step of the pension reform, which is improvement of pension payments for military retirees. It became possible due to the decision of the Government. More than 500 thousand pensioners have received increased pensions and compensations. The increase made up UAH 1.500 on average.

The draft law on superannuation for active military personnel who will retire in subsequent periods is also elaborated by the Government, and at present the document is being considered.
