Situation update of General Staff of UAF regarding russian invasion as of 6 p.m., January 5, 2024

Day 681 of the russian full-scale military aggression against Ukraine continues.

During the day of January 5, there were 56x combat engagements. The enemy launched a total of 3x missile and 16x air strikes, 12x MLRS attacks at the positions of Ukrainian troops and various settlements. Unfortunately, the russian terrorist attacks have killed and wounded civilians. Residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure were destroyed or damaged.

Also, on the night of January 5, 2024, the russian occupiers launched yet another attack on Ukraine, using 29x Shahed-136/131 strike UAVs. The Ukrainian Air Defense destroyed 21x enemy drones.

The operational situation in eastern and southern Ukraine remains difficult.

Volyn and Polissya axes: no significant changes. No signs of formation of an offensive group. Certain units of the armed forces of belarus continue their missions in the areas bordering Ukraine.

Sivershchyna and Slobozhanshchyna axes: the adversary maintains its military presence in the areas of russia bordering Ukraine. The enemy continues its sabotage and reconnaissance activities, shelling Ukrainian settlements from the territory of russia and increases the density of minefields along the state border of Ukraine. Around 15x settlements, including Popivka (Chernihiv oblast), Znob-Trubchevska, Seredyna-Buda, Marchykhyna Buda, Vovkivka (Sumy oblast), Hatyshche, Bochkove, and Dvorichanske (Kharkiv oblast), came under artillery and mortar fire of the enemy.

Kupyansk axis: the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 7x attacks of the adversary in the vicinity of Synkivka (Kharkiv oblast). The invaders fired artillery and mortars at around 10x settlements, including Dvorichna, Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Ivanivka, and Berestove (Kharkiv oblast).

Lyman axis: the enemy did not conduct any offensive (assault) operations. The adversary fired artillery and mortars at more than 10x settlements, including Nevske, Bilohorivka (Luhansk oblast), Torske, Verkhnokamyanske, and Spirne (Donetsk oblast).

Bakhmut axis: the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 3x attacks near Klishchiivka and Andriivka (Donetsk oblast). The enemy attempted to break through the defense of Ukrainian troops in that area. More than 10x settlements, including Vasyukivka, Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, Klishchiivka, Andriivka, and New York (Donetsk oblast), came under artillery and mortar fire.

Avdiivka axis: the Ukrainian defenders repelled 3x enemy attacks in the vicinities of Novobakhmutivka, Avdiivka, and 16x more attacks near Pervomaiske and Nevelske (Donetsk oblast). The adversary made unsuccessful attempts to improve its tactical position in that area. The invaders fired artillery and mortars at around 10x settlements, including Novokalynove, Berdychi, Avdiivka, Vodyane, and Pervomaiske (Donetsk oblast).

Maryinka axis: the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to hold back the occupiers near Maryinka, Pobjeda, and Novomykhailivka (Donetsk oblast). The enemy made 15x unsuccessful attempts to break through the defense of Ukrainian troops in this area. Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, Maksymilyanivka, Maryinka, Novomykhailivka, and Kostyantynivka were under artillery and mortar fire of the invaders.

Shakhtarske axis: the enemy did not conduct any offensive (assault) operations. The invaders fired artillery and mortars at more than 10x settlements, including Vuhledar, Prechystivka, Urozhaine, and Staromaiorske (Donetsk oblast).

Zaporizhzhia axis: the adversary did not conduct any offensive (assault) operations. More than 15x settlements, including Levadne, Malynivka, Hulyaipole, Pyatykhatky, and Kamyanske (Zaporizhzhia oblast), came under artillery and mortar fire.

Odesa operational-strategic group, Kherson axis: Zolota Balka, Ivanivka, Sadove, Kherson, Blahovishchenske, Veletenske, Kizomys (Kherson oblast), and Solonchaky (Mykolaiv oblast) came under enemy artillery fire. Also, the adversary launched an air strike in the vicinity of Chervonyi Mayak (Kherson oblast).

The occupiers do not abandon their intention to dislodge Ukrainian troops from their bridgeheads on the left bank of the Dnipro River. For instance, during the day of January 5, the adversary attempted 10x unsuccessful assault operations, but the Ukrainian troops continue to hold their positions and inflict significant losses on the invaders.

During day of January 5, the Ukrainian Air Force launched air strikes on 5x concentrations of enemy troops.

The Ukrainian missile troops hit 1x command post, 1x ammunition depot, and 1x artillery system of the russian invaders.
