Situation update of General Staff of UAF regarding russian invasion as of 6 a.m., December 9, 2023

Day 654 of the russian full-scale military aggression against Ukraine has begun.

The russian federation continues to ignore the laws and customs of warfare, using the terror tactics, launching missile and air strikes, and firing multiple launch rocket systems not only at the military, but also at numerous civilian targets across Ukraine. 

During the day of December 8, there were 95 combat engagements. 

The enemy launched a total of 28 missile and 27 air strikes, 59 MLRS attacks at the positions of Ukrainian troops and various settlements. Unfortunately, the russian terrorist attacks have killed and wounded civilians. Private residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure were destroyed or damaged. 

Air strikes hit Petropavlivka, Podoly, Ivanivka, Pershotravneve (Kharkiv oblast), Nadiya, Nevske, Serebryanske forestry (Luhansk oblast), Kolodyazi, Serebryanka, Chasiv Yar, Avdiyivka, and Lastochkyne (Donetsk oblast).

More than 100 settlements in Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, and Mykolaiv oblasts came under artillery fire.

Pivnich operational-strategic group, Volyn and Polissya axes: no significant changes.

Sivershchyna and Slobozhanshchyna axes: the adversary maintains its military presence in the areas of russia bordering Ukraine. The enemy troops conduct active subversive activities in order to prevent the deployment of Ukrainian troops to threatened axes. The adversary increases the density of minefields along the state border in Belgorod oblast (russia).

Khortytsia operational-strategic group, Kupyansk axis: Ukrainian defenders repelled 11 enemy attacks in the vicinities of Synkivka northeast of Petropavlivka and Ivanivka (Kharkiv oblast). 

Lyman axis: the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 1 enemy attack in the vicinity of Spirne (Luhansk oblast). 

Bakhmut axis: the Ukrainian soldiers repelled 13 attacks of the enemy in the vicinities of Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, Klishchiyivka, and Andriyivka (Donetsk oblast). The Ukrainian Defense Forces continue assault operations south of Bakhmut (Donetsk oblast), inflict losses in manpower and equipment on the enemy, and consolidate their new positions.

Tavria operational-strategic group, Avdiyivka axis: the Ukrainian defenders continue to hold back the enemy who keeps trying to encircle Avdiyivka. The Ukrainian soldiers are standing their ground as they inflict major losses on the enemy. The Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 35 attacks of the adversary in the areas east of Novobakhmutivka, Stepove, Avdiyivka, Tonenke, and Pervomaiske (Donetsk oblast). 

Maryinka axis: the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to hold back the enemy in the vicinities of Krasnohorivka, Maryinka, Pobjeda, and Novomykhailivka (Donetsk oblast). The Ukrainian defenders repelled 24 attacks in that area. 

Shakhtarske and Zaporizhzhia axis: the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled all of the enemy attacks that were an attempt to regain the lost ground in the areas west of Verbove (Zaporizhzhia oblast).

At the same time, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue their active operations on Melitopol’ axis to inflict losses in manpower and equipment on the occupation forces, and exhaust the enemy all along the front line. 

Odesa operational-strategic group, Kherson axis: the Ukrainian Defense Forces maintain their positions held on the left bank of the Dnipro River, continue to conduct counter-battery fire, as they strike behind the enemy lines.

The Ukrainian missile troops hit 6x concentrations of troops, weapons, and military equipment, and 1 electronic warfare station of the adversary. 

Also, the Ukrainian air defense forces and means destroyed 14 Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles.
