Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Olha Stefanishyna discussed Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic integration and strengthening of cooperation between Ukraine and its allies in the security sphere with President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Joëlle Garriaud-Maylam.

Olha Stefanishyna congratulated Joëlle Garriaud-Maylam on her election and expressed special gratitude for the visit to Ukraine.

“This is the first visit of a high-ranking official of the North Atlantic Alliance to Ukraine since the beginning of russia’s full-scale war. Through you, I would like to express my gratitude to the parliamentarians of the Alliance member states for their support of Ukraine and call for increased defense assistance that Ukraine needs to win,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.

In turn, the President of the NATO PA assured of continued strong support for Ukraine in the defense of its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Olha Stefanishyna emphasized the importance of parliamentary diplomacy and thanked for the decisions taken by the Parliamentary Assembly. Participants of the meeting also discussed expectations from the NATO Summit to be held in Vilnius in July 2023.

As a reminder, last November, the NATO Parliamentary Assembly adopted a resolution calling on Allied governments and parliaments to determine the next steps in support of Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations, to strengthen NATO’s assistance to Ukraine’s security and defense sector and cooperation with its Armed Forces, to work to bring russia to justice, including establishment of a special international tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine, and to clearly recognize that russia is a terrorist state under its current regime.
