Ukraine is still suffering the post-Soviet impact on the energy sector that needs to be minimized. The Government's priority for the upcoming few years is to create competition in the energy market. Prime Minister of Ukraine Oleksiy Honcharuk announced during a meeting with President of the Slovak Republic Zuzana Čaputová, who is on an official visit to Ukraine.
"We would be happy if Slovak companies were part of this and other Ukrainian markets. After all, Slovakia is our good neighbor, with whom we have a shared history", said Prime Minister of Ukraine Oleksiy Honcharuk.
In turn, the President of the Slovak Republic stressed that her country supports Ukraine on the international arena.
"Slovakia supports Ukraine's stance on the Nord Stream-2, the Russian Federation, as well as Ukraine's aspirations to join the European Union and NATO", Ms. Zuzana Čaputová emphasized.
The Prime Minister of Ukraine added that his Government had embarked on the implementation of a number of critical reforms. The Cabinet of Ministers is planning to rebuild the country's infrastructure, reform the railways and change the rules for the use of internal rivers. The latter will allow a complete upgrade of the domestic transportation system.
Oleksiy Honcharuk added that his team planned to carry out a major reform of education and science, as well as to complete the healthcare reform that had been launched two years ago.
In addition, peculiar emphasis was laid on the issue of combating smuggling at the Ukrainian-Slovak border.
"Our countries also have shared problems. We have to fight smuggling together. To do that, we can try to discuss the system of exchange of information on the movement of goods through the customs territory. I have high hopes that the next time I go to the border between Ukraine and Slovakia, it will not be connected with the fight against smuggling", the Prime Minister said.
