Prime Minister of Ukraine Oleksiy Honcharuk's comment regarding the Financial Times article on PrivatBank
This morning the Financial Times published an article in which I comment on the case of PrivatBank and allegedly emphasize that we are seeking a compromise on this issue. The article was immediately reprinted by the Ukrainian media that added that the Government was negotiating in a bid to seek a compromise on the issue.
To avoid further manipulation and publicity, I want to clear that up: The Government is closely studying the situation around PrivatBank (including negotiations with its former owners, which were held by the previous independent Bank's Supervisory Board). The Government is not engaged in any negotiations on these issues.
Moreover, I emphasized to FT journalists that I would not like to give legal assessment to some consideration of the legal side of this case. But I assure that every effort will be made to protect the money of Ukrainian taxpayers and the national interests of Ukraine. And that will be done in close consultation with international partners.
